Jose Mourinho could be key to Manchester United tempting Mesut Ozil away from Arsenal.
The Manchester Evening News says the German midfielder was previously enticed by the Reds boss when Mourinho telephoned Ozil to convince him to sign for Real Madrid.
It was Mourinho's intervention that forced Ozil to initially turn down Arsene Wenger in 2010 after an impressive World Cup finals and move from Werder Bremen to Real Madrid.
But when Mourinho left the Bernabeu in May 2013, Ozil agreed to join the Gunners that summer.
He has never forgotten Mourinho's call to persuade him to initially forget London and move to Madrid.
“They wanted me, especially Mourinho. I spoke with him on the phone and he told me his ideas and what he thought about me as a player,” recalled Ozil.
Ozil has 19 months on his Emirates contract to run but Arsenal are trying to tie him down early to a new deal. The German, however, is stalling and that has alerted United.
